Erica Lane 

My name is Erica Lane and I am majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Learning Technolgies at Iowa State University. I am originally from Humboldt, a small farming community in North Central Iowa. Because I grew up in a small town, I had a lot of opportunitities to volunteer my time and talents, and that is where my dream to become a teacher began. In high school, I spent a lot of time coaching younger girls in basketball and volleyball (as I was a four-sport athlete in high school). I found a passion for helping others and watching them succeed. Seeing others succeed and believe in themselves gives me a feeling that nothing else can.

 

I want to become a teacher so that I will be able to continue giving our future generations the tools to be successful and confident in themselves for many years to come, and because being a teacher gives me this exact opportunity I believe that it's thebest profession in the world. The cool thing about being a teacher is that you are teaching others to be doctors, lawyers, farmers. You could even be teaching the future president of the United States! Without teachers, the world could not function, yet another reason why I believe that this is the best profession in the world. I cannot wait to continue my adventure at Iowa State, and look forward to the day that I return to elementary school only this time, as the teacher.
