Week 1: New Knowledge on the Horizon

I am so lucky to be taking C I 302 this semester! I am hoping that this class will give me a plethora of knowledge about the many tools available to teachers. Technology is definitely becoming more and more prevalent in schools, and it will be necessary for me to be fluent in the technology we use and the tools that it comes with when I graduate and begin teaching. This knowledge will be necessary to give students the best experience possible in the classroom.
I am looking forward to learning how to authentically integrate technology into the classroom rather than using it as a reward or activity extension. I have already taken a class on campus about Game Based Learning and learned that there are fun ways to use technology AND Learn and am excited to learn about more new and different ways. Elementary age students are growing up in a world that surrounds them with technology, and technology will be prevalent throughout their entire lives. I feel it will be my job as an educator to teach these students how to use technology to learn and create something useful and interesting to them. I also would like to teach my students how they can use technology to help teach others. I am anxious to learn new ways to effectively and authentically pair technology with lesson plans so that my students can take full advantage of all of the great things these new technologies have to offer.
I am also looking forward to learning about the available Google tools. These tools can really enhance the way that students interact with each other as well as with teachers, and I cannot wait to learn about even more ways to reach out to each other through the Internet. As a teacher, I also feel that many of these Google Tools can help me work more efficiently and be more organized. Although we covered a few of these tools in the last technology class I took in person (Ci 201), It will be so great to add many new tools to my arsenal!
