Week 13 & 14: Different Roles in Education

By watching Lance Lennon’s video, I learned that Chrome Books really aren’t that bad after all. I am a technology Intern at Gilbert Community School District and that school district is 1:1 Chrome Books in grades 6-12. I hate the Samsung Chrome Books that I fix, personally. I see that they are not high quality and agree that (as Lance put it), they are the Wal-Mart brand of Chrome Books. They do not seem like a good purchase in my opinion. I was dreading teaching in a school that used these same machines. But Lance opened my eyes to see that these machines are old purchases and machines that work better and are higher quality are now cheaper and more accessible. It makes me feel better that machines that I use will be higher quality. I can tell he is passionate about Google apps.

I really agree with Josh that parent involvement and education is important. I can also agree with him that someday I would like to be involved in my school’s technology program and by reaching out to other teachers, students, and parents better than I could before. I want to use technology to engage and reach out in ways that I couldn’t before. I see myself using a Twitter or Instagram account to reach out with families. This is a fun way (and way that I’m familiar with) to share fun or interesting things going in my classroom and in my school.

Stacey has really had a lot of jobs and has gotten a lot of experience in many different areas. She works for the AEA and that is a point of view I hadn’t heard from before. I hope when I am an educator I have somebody as knowledgeable as her in my district to provide teacher development. I relate with Stacey when she says that she wants to push and challenge herself and wants to learn more things. She is also a Google Certified Teacher. I would love to do something like that someday. I think that is great teacher development and a great example of being a life long learner—something that I feel is very important. I also like the idea of a survey for parents and students about how they use technology and if it is engaging or not for them. I can use this information to guide instruction using technology.

I don’t ever see myself in one of these positions. Although I respect and am interested in the positions these three individuals hold, I prefer to be in the classroom. I am passionate about being a classroom teacher in elementary education. I am working towards a minor in learning technologies because I know that technology will be super relevant in classrooms for a long, long time. I want to be as knowledgeable as possible and be able to provide the best activities and most authentic activities to enhance my students’ learning.
