I am very passionate about teaching. There is a lot of information I would love to include in my teaching philosophy that I didn’t have time to provide when presenting my philosophy IGNITE style. After listening to my peers talk about their teaching philosophies and the things they are passionate about, I learned that some of my classmates feel it is important to be “in charge” and that their students know that. Hearing that really struck a cord with me; I definitely do not want to be a dictator of my students. I want my classroom to be student-centered and I want my students to feel like they are in the driver’s seat when it comes to their learning. I want to be there as a role model and guide my students.

In C I 302, I learned that there are tons of technologies out in the world that we as teachers should be and can be taking advantage of. Some of these tools, though, are pricey, especially for a classroom teacher. There are grants that many companies give away to help fund projects that provide these tools for students. I learned that writing grants is not easy. I had never thought about having to write a grant before, and I am glad I was given the chance to do so as a “practice run”. It will be important for me to know how to write grants so I can keep my students up to date with new technology and inspire them in new ways without breaking my bank. I also learned that technology is best used when it is used to transform education. Technology is a tool to help improve education; it is not the basis of education. When we use technology as a way to transform education, we use it to change education in a way that we never could have imagined possible. It improves education for the better. Know this will help me better integrate technology into my curriculum as well as inspire me to transform my teaching as well as learning with technology. I am passionate about technology and it will definitely be present in my classroom—it would be unfair of me to rob my students of that knowledge.
